Great Calva - Route One

 

Start - Mosedale NY 327 326 Distance - 3 miles Ascent - 1,320 feet Time - 1 hour : 50 minutes


Grainsgill Beck Bridge at the head of the Mosedale Valley
There are a few spaces to park beside the bridge and a rough parking area beyond it on the left amongst the bracken

This section of the Cumbria Way follows the course of the River Caldew as far as Skiddaw House

The gill is only followed for a few hundred yards to fence where a path climbs its steep bank
A thin path through the waist high heather above Wiley Gill leads to a gate in the fence
It's now only a matter of following the fence line all the way to the summit ridge
