Heron Pike - Route One

 

Start - Grasmere NY 336 076 Distance - 2.5 miles Ascent - 1,860 feet Time - 1 hour : 55 minutes

 

 

The walk starts along the lane beside the Swan Hotel
A few hundred yards from the hotel a narrow lane rises alongside Greenhead Gill
At the end of the lane a gate gives access to the open fellside and a footbridge crossing Greenhead Gill
After crossing Greenhead Gill the stone pitched path to Alcock Tarn turns to rise steeply alongside a wall
